Opening Reception

On the first day of lectures, we will host a Welcoming Happy Hour at Inca Social. This restaurant is located within walking distance of both the BSKB office and the Courtyard Dunn Loring hotel. The cocktail event will serve as an opportunity to get to know one another and welcome our guests to the seminar. 

Trip to the USPTO Museum

The National Inventors Hall of Fame Museum is a museum located on the USPTO campus where visitors can interact with and explore their exhibits and archives.

Current exhibits include:

  • The National Inventors Hall of Fame, which showcases over 600 inducted inventors and their achievements.
  • Intellectual Property Power, which celebrates the story of intellectual property and it's significance to progress, innovations and culture.
  • History of Patent Examination, where you are shown how the Patent Office and the process of patent examination has changed over the course of 226 years.

Closing Reception

The closing reception will be held at Sixty Vines.  We ask that participants dress in business formal attire, as we will hand out certificates of completion to each participant.

Sixty Vines is best known for its sustainable wine-on-tap system of over 60 types of wine paired with it's vineyard-inspired cuisine.

George Washington's Mount Vernon

Located outside of Washington D.C. along the banks of the Potomac River sits the Mount Vernon estate, home to America's First President, George Washington.

Guests can participate in guided tours, visit the Mansion and the grounds, and learn more about the founding of this country though reenactments, museums, and more. George Washington's final resting place and a memorial for the enslaved people of Mount Vernon is also available for guests to visit.

Great Falls National Park

Great Falls National Park is 800 beautifully preserved acres of forrest, wildlife, and history that has been visited and navigated by humans for over ten thousand years. 

What was once a major trading location for the indigenous tribes of the area, later claimed by England during the era of colonization, this national park boasts breathtaking scenery, communities of rare species of plantlife, and abundant wilflife, including over 150 different species of birds.

Meadowlark Botanical Gardens

Meadowlark Botanical Gardens is made up of 95 acres of panoramic views and captivating topography, with diverse collections of regional plants, conservation education, themed gardens, and outdoor adventures.

Tysons Corner Center is Virginia's premier shopping destination. One of the largest shopping centers in the country, the center houses a wide array of shopping, dining and entertainment destinations. DC Monuments Tour

Learn about Washington DC's history, stroll the National Mall, and see iconic monuments, all at no charge! See the city's most popular monuments like: Iwo Jima Marine Corps Memorial, FDR, Lincoln, Vietnam Veterans, Korean War Memorial, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.

The below suggested museums are part of The Smithsonian Institution. Smithsonian is the world’s largest museum complex, 
with 17 free museums in Washington DC, and the National Zoo.

Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center

The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum is made up of two locations; one in Washington D.C., the other near Dulles International Airport. The larger of the two locations is the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. This museum location houses an assortment of over 3,000 different aviation and space artifacts, the Preservation and Restoration Hangar, where guests can watch as staff actively work to restore historic air and space crafts, and interactive flight simulation rides. 

A few notable exhibits include the Space Shuttle: Discovery, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, and the X-Wing Starfighter Drone from the Star Wars franchise.

Smithsonian National Zoo

For over 130 years, the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute has been dedicated to the protection, research & care for thousands of animals from hundreds of different speicies. While they display many animals to the public for educational purposes, they also work to reintroduce endagered speicies to their natural habitats through specialized breeding programs, including several species that have been confirmed as extinct in the wild.

Visitors can expect to see animals such as Giant Pandas, the Asian Elephant (including a baby that was born in early Feburary, 2026), the Western Lowland Gorilla, and many more.

Admission to the zoo is free for everyone, but entry passes are required for all guests, including infants. More information and instructions for reserving free passes can be found here.  

Natural History Museum

The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History is one of the more popular museums on The National Mall. Boasting a collection of 128 million specimens and artifacts, the museum aims to tell the planet's history and provides record of human interaction with both the planet's environment and with one another.

Some of their more popular exhibits include the Hall of Fossils, the Hall of Human Origins, the Hall of Mammals, and Eternal Life in Ancient Egypt. Visitors can also expect to see famous artifacts such as The Hope Diamond.

National Museum of American History

Located on the National Mall, The National Museum of American History offers a detailed look into the history of this country. The museum serves as the custodian of the country's national treasures, preserving more than 1.7 million artifacts and 22,000 linear feet of archival documents, though it is only able to display less than 1% of them at a time.
